There are 200 children, aged from 2 years to 15 years enlisted from the immediate area of ‘HIVASO’ (Hiri-Vanapa-Sogeri). Many are TOP UP children from other schools that attend weekend classes and others that do not have school fees & bus fares.
The Centre has a set of standard rules from which a natural selection process of worthy families is conducted.
The school has around 20 computers of various vintage with educational programs (English & Math’s-all ages) of highest International standard. It is open 7 days a week from 7:00am to 3:00pm.
The four main things taught are:
- Good manners
- English,
- Driving,
- Computers.
Other lessons offered in life skills are: vocational trades, commercial farming, Mama’s refuge & adult literacy, CODE, awareness of customary law and productive village living with Melanesian values.
The school provides 1 meal a day per child. Basic medicine plus transport is available.
The children are expected to pay for their lessons in two ways: - That they learn hard in their school lessons,
- That they work hard in the fields of their school gardens and all life skill activities assigned to them.
The parents are expected to commit themselves to the future of their children.
